- NCAS Debate Team News
Hello, NCAS family!
I want to send this email out as a great way to start the upcoming week! I wanted to let you know that tomorrow you will see some of our middle and high school speech and debate team members proudly displaying the medals that they won this weekend at our first tournament. All of our students that competed received a medal.
For our middle school, Aidan Oliva-Messina won a bronze metal in Cross-Examination Debate. He was the only student from any school, both high school and middle school, to debate alone and received special recognition from the faculty for his confidence and will-power to go through with his decision to debate alone.
We also had Thomas Phoenix win a bronze metal for his dramatic interpretation of “The Tell-Tale Heart.” In his very first performance, he ranked third.
For our high school, Desiray Fennelly-Garcia won a bronze metal for her dramatic interpretation of “A Collapse of Horses.” We also had Oluchi Nnanna win a bronze metal for her dramatic interpretation of “Inferno,” a slam poem she wrote herself only two weeks ago.
The kids were so nervous for the tournament, but came out excited and victorious! If you see these students tomorrow, please make it a point to congratulate them. Any moment we have to celebrate our student’s accomplishments, especially academic, is huge! Your encouragement and kind words will continue to boost their confidence and future successes.
