“They thought I was a Surrealist, but I wasn’t. I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality” -Freida Kahlo. I am native to North Denver and am a DPS student myself. I truly believe that education should give all students the opportunity to paint their own realities. I am a passionate advocate for changing the educational narrative and fighting for equity in our schools. I have worked in the Far Northeast for the past 10 years and believe that we have the best students. I believe that my own experience of being Chicana, growing up poor, and facing adversity has given me a unique lens that helps drive my decisions as a leader.
